Accompanied by the scent of the Christmas market, walk through the streets of Lucerne and enjoy the city’s sights illuminated at Christmas. A special eye-catcher is the pier in the middle of Lucerne. Every year it is covered with beautiful Christmas lights and shines in all its glory. Designed by Marques Architekten AG.
Spreading a Christmas atmosphere is the main purpose of the new Christmas lights above the Seebrücke in Lucerne. Our proposal is not primarily a staging of a form or a spatial idea, but is intended to spread a mood, represent a sensual event, and create atmosphere. The free-standing bridge forms an ideal stage for this. The curtain of lights, which is stretched over the bridge, is intended to envelop the passer-by like a cloth. This deliberately creates a canopy of lights that turns the otherwise rather uncomfortable, cold transition to the lake into a visually warm experience.
The east side is deliberately closed off with the fairy lights. Towards the west, the canopy of lights is opened. This creates a visual reference opposite the picturesque old town and the Chapel Bridge. The jagged appearance of the light body is reminiscent of the prongs of a crown. In this way, the festive symbolism of the Christmas season with its 3 Kings and the Star of Bethlehem is subtly created without falling into kitsch.
